Village Scenes

The village is now signposted Clayton and Frickley, (see photo), but past records show Frickley the first name;

"FRICKLEY WITH CLAYTON, a parish in the liberty of Pontefract; 7 miles from Doncaster 9 from Barnsley."
"CLAYTON, in the township and parish of Frickley with Clayton, lower-division of Strafforth and Tickhill The Church, (styled Frickley with Clayton) is a perpetual curacy, dedicated to All-Saints, in the deanry of Doncaster. (Excerpts from Genuki  (date about 1820 AD)

I remember walking to Clayton from South Kirkby as a young man to take Sunday morning service sometimes at the Methodist Church (now demolished, I think).
Frickley is now known mostly for it's football and cricket teams. Frickley Colliery (see photo links below), closed in 1993, keeps just it's name alive mainly through the Brass Band , still very active.
